Plans & Usage

Dedicated Server FAQ

Check six topic areas for guidance on choosing a plan, setup, and billing.

Plans

Choose RAM first; plan storage around its intended use

Both server options share the same processor and standard storage. Confirm RAM capacity, disk redundancy and backup plans separately before ordering; combined drive capacity does not mean redundancy is in place.

Which RAM option should I choose: 128GB or 256GB?

Both options use an AMD EPYC 7543P 32-core, 64-thread processor and DDR4-3200 ECC RAM; the difference is memory capacity. Add up the memory needs of the OS, applications, database cache and virtual machines, and leave room for growth. The 128GB plan is $454/month and the 256GB plan is $616/month. CPU utilization alone is not a reliable way to estimate required RAM.

Can RAM be upgraded on the same server after setup?

RAM cannot be upgraded on the same server after setup. To move from 128GB to 256GB, a separate server must be ordered, and application and data migration must be arranged independently. Factor in database buffer pools, memory reserved for virtual machines and migration overhead when choosing a plan; do not assume the existing server can be upgraded later.

Are the included drives configured as RAID-1?

No. The standard configuration includes 2×1TB NVMe drives, each directly attached, with no hardware RAID. The stated combined capacity is 2TB; this is not RAID-1. Partitioning, filesystems and redundancy must be configured independently. Usable space will vary due to capacity units, formatting and system usage. Mirroring and backups provide different types of protection and are not substitutes for each other.

How many additional NVMe drives can be added?

Add 0 to 2 additional 2TB NVMe SSDs for $78/month each. Added drives are also directly attached and are not part of a hardware array. For software RAID or a ZFS mirror, first plan drive roles, capacity and backup procedures. Submit requests to add drives after setup through a console support ticket.

Setup

Payment and setup are separate steps

The data centre is in Tokyo, Japan. Use the payment record to verify billing and the server details to check setup. Before connecting, confirm that the server status and credentials are visible.

Where can setup status and login credentials be checked after payment?

Once payment is confirmed, the server enters the setup process. Check its status on the server page in the console and paid transactions on the billing page. When setup is complete, the server details show the first IPv4 address, username and initial password. No fixed setup time is promised; the live status in the console is the source of truth. Payment confirmation does not mean the server is ready to connect to.

OS

Back up first, then confirm the target version

Linux, BSD and Proxmox VE are included at no extra cost; Windows Server requires a monthly licence. When choosing an OS, check application compatibility, login method and how existing data will be restored.

How do I request an OS reinstall, and what should be prepared first?

Submit an OS reinstallation request through a console support ticket, including the server ID and target OS and version. Choose from 14 included operating systems; Windows Server requires an additional monthly licence fee. Back up data, application settings and recovery files before reinstalling, and verify that the backup can be restored. Reinstallation does not migrate data or preserve data on the existing drives.

How is monthly licensing billed for Windows Server?

Windows Server Standard adds +$25/month and Datacenter adds +$32/month to the monthly total. The amount due is then calculated based on the number of months in the selected billing term. Versions 2019, 2022 and 2025 are available, with English, Traditional Chinese or Simplified Chinese system languages. Submit changes through a console support ticket; confirm the target version, licence edition and data backups first.

Bandwidth

Unmetered traffic; choose a port speed tier

Traffic is the total amount of data transferred, while a bandwidth tier defines port speed. Two services with similar monthly traffic can need different tiers because of peak usage and concurrency.

Does unmetered traffic mean there is no bandwidth speed limit?

No. Port speed options are 250 Mbps, 1 Gbps and 2 Gbps; choose one per server, and all options are unmetered. 250 Mbps is included in the server’s monthly price. 1 Gbps adds $253/month, and 2 Gbps adds $742/month. Unmetered traffic does not mean unlimited speed, and not every network route will reach the port’s rated speed.

How do I choose the right bandwidth tier?

Consider peak throughput, concurrent connections, data transferred per connection and backup sync requirements—not just monthly traffic totals. Performance also depends on client networks, routing between networks and application capacity. To change bandwidth, submit a console support ticket. Compare the options on the pricing page to calculate the monthly total before choosing a tier.

IP

Use the first IPv4 address for management access

The number of addresses and their configuration in the OS are separate matters. Before using additional addresses for a service, verify their assignments and firewall rules. Do not assume an application is ready to serve traffic just because an address has been added.

How many IPv4 addresses are included, and what do extra addresses cost?

One dedicated IPv4 address is included. Up to 255 more can be added, for a maximum of 256 total. Each additional IPv4 address costs $2/month and is added to the monthly total; the amount due is based on the number of months in the selected billing term. Plan address counts for actual host, application and VM requirements. Additional addresses must be assigned in the OS or virtualization host.

Which IPv4 address should be used for SSH or RDP when a server has several?

Connect using the first IPv4 address shown in the console. Use SSH for Linux, FreeBSD and Proxmox VE, and RDP for Windows. Find the username and password in the server details in the console. Other addresses are for applications or VM configurations; additional addresses are not automatically configured as management access points.

Billing

Billing terms multiply the months, not change the monthly price

When checking costs, distinguish the server’s monthly price, add-on prices and the amount due for the current term. Configuration changes affect the monthly total; the billing term determines how many months are charged.

Which billing terms are available? Are there setup fees or term discounts?

Monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual billing cover 1, 3, 6 and 12 months, respectively. All four terms have no discount; there is no setup fee or contract. The monthly total is the server price plus drive, bandwidth, additional IPv4 and Windows licensing charges. Amount due = monthly total × number of months. All charges are in USD; available payment methods are listed on the configuration page.

How are refund requests and expired services handled?

Refund and non-renewal requests are handled individually under the Terms of Service through a console support ticket; no fixed refund percentage applies. Include the order or server ID, relevant billing details and a clear description of the request so payment and service status can be checked. No contract does not mean an automatic refund. The terms and ticket review determine the outcome.

Quick glossary

Eight hardware and storage terms

These terms explain resource topology, virtualization capabilities and data protection. They do not mean that the related configurations are already in place.

NUMA
Non-uniform memory access describes the relationship between memory access and CPU topology. When planning VM or database resources, check the topology reported by the system; total memory alone is not enough.
ECC
Error-correcting code memory can correct single-bit memory errors. The RAM here is DDR4-3200 ECC. ECC handles memory errors; it does not replace application-level validation or data backups.
AMD-V (SVM)
AMD hardware virtualization extensions provide processor support for virtualization hosts. Running VMs also requires correct host, guest resource and network configuration.
NPT
Nested page tables reduce the overhead of translating VM memory addresses. This is a hardware virtualization feature; it does not mean VMs can run without sufficient memory allocation.
Direct-attached NVMe
Each NVMe drive is attached directly to the system, without a hardware RAID controller. The system sees each drive separately; disk partitioning, filesystems and drive layout must be configured independently.
Software RAID
Disk redundancy configured by the operating system. Mirroring, disk allocation and recovery procedures should all be planned around the service’s requirements.
ZFS mirror
A two-drive mirror created in a ZFS storage pool to store data redundantly. Mirroring reduces usable capacity; backups are still needed to recover from accidental deletion or application-level corruption.
Nested virtualization
Running a virtualization host inside a virtual machine. AMD-V (SVM) and NPT provide the relevant hardware capabilities; actual use also depends on host and guest settings and resource allocation.
